Pregnancy Boom

At Gloucester High School by the end of the school year 17 girls were expecting babies. This is 4 times the number of pregnancies than last year. Girls were going out and buying pregnancy tests, and also going to the school clinic. The principal noticed that they were more upset when they weren't pregnant. Some girls came forward and told how they made a pact and they planned on raising them together. One even confessed that the father was a 24 year old homeless man. In this town they relied on fishing for jobs, and now these jobs have become out of touch. These kids were growing up without a future plan and families were broken. Amanda Ireland got pregnant and had a baby girl when she was a freshman. By her senior year girls were coming up to her and saying how lucky she was to have a child. She believes that these girls want to get pregnant to have someone love them no matter what. At the school they provide an on-site daycare to keep teen mothers in school. Some people tried to provide birth control to help these numbers go down, but Mayor Carolyn Kirk couldn't hear of it.
